The Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources has a key role in increasing prosperity for all Australians through internationally competitive and sustainable business.

Tourism is a key economic driver for the Australian economy. The Department works closely with industry to identify and address impediments to growth and maximise yield. The Department promotes a high-quality tourism industry, provides the industry with research and statistics, and administers a number of assistance programs including the Business Ready Program for Indigenous Tourism. A key area of opportunity for the Australian tourism industry is developing a strong, effective Indigenous sector.

Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources has coordinated the creation of the Australian Government funded business entry point website, with the support of state and territory governments. Business.gov.au offers simple and convenient access to all the government information, transactions and service. It's a whole-of-government service providing essential information on planning, starting and running a business.

Indigenous Land Corporation

The Indigenous Land Corporation is pleased to be involved in the creation of the Indigenous Tourism Web Portal. The ILC is a Commonwealth statutory authority. It assists Indigenous Australians to acquire and manage Indigenous-held land in a sustainable way to provide cultural, social, economic or environmental benefits.

The ILC established a Tourism Advisory Committee in late 2005 to consider proposals for tourism activities on properties the ILC has acquired or is considering acquiring. Proposals must be sustainable, have an opportunity to generate a reasonable return and create employment and training opportunities. The Committee is chaired by ILC Board Director David Baffsky. Industry experts on the Committee, include Aden Ridgeway, Chairman, Indigenous Tourism Australia; Chris Fry, National Bank of Australia; Judy Freeman, Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park; and Glen Miller,Tourism Queensland.

Indigenous Business Australia

Indigenous Business Australia (IBA) is a statutory corporation which plays an important role in creating opportunities for Indigenous individuals and communities to build assets and wealth. It does so as an integral partner within the Australian Government's overarching Indigenous Economic Development Strategy.

IBA works closely with the private sector and local community groups to foster economic independence and home ownership among Indigenous people to achieve this whole-of-Government objective in service delivery.

IBA offers a range of services designed to develop and support initiatives for long term asset accumulation.

Tourism NSW

Tourism NSW is the NSW Government’s tourism expert. We market NSW and we consult on the development of our destinations. We do this by marketing NSW destinations and holiday experiences to domestic and international markets, and by working with and providing advice to industry and key stakeholders about the development of sustainable destinations.

Two ground-breaking new publications have been developed by Tourism NSW to support Aboriginal tourism operators in NSW - Principles for Developing Aboriginal Tourism and the Aboriginal NSW Product Manual. Tourism markets and influences the development of the Northern Territory as a competitive and compelling travel destination for the continuing benefit of all Territorians.

Tourism NT works with three main partners and stakeholders to achieve these outcomes:

Tourism Queensland

Tourism Queensland's Indigenous Tourism Strategy aims to increase Indigenous involvement in all aspects of Queenlsand’s tourism industry. It’s main objectives are to:

  • assist Indigenous people in choosing how they participate in the tourism industry;
  • assist in the removal of obstacles faced by Indigenous people to increase participation in all aspects of tourism;
  • assist Indigenous people in developing tourism product that is culturally acceptable to Indigenous Australians and provides a valuable tourist experience as a basis for profitable business; and
  • assist the established tourism industry in identifying Indigenous tourism opportunities and to develop partnerships with Indigenous communities and Indigenous tourism operations.

Tourism Tasmania

Tourism Tasmania is a statutory authority established in 1997. It operates under the Tourism Tasmania Act 1996, and is governed by a seven-member Board.

Tourism Tasmania promotes Tasmania nationally and internationally as a world-class visitor destination, in the process providing jobs and revenue to the State. The organisation works closely with industry partners in implementing a program of advertising, consumer and trade promotions in Australia and in key international markets.

In addition to the wholesaling arm, Tasmania’s Temptations Holidays, the Authority runs its own national customer Call Centre located in Launceston. Events Tasmania is aligned to Tourism Tasmania and has a leadership role to stimulate event growth in Tasmania.
