National Indigenous Tourism Product Manual (3rd Edition)

Students from Djarragun College

The National Indigenous Tourism Product Manual has been developed by Tourism Australia with the assistance of the State and Territory Tourism Organisations (STOs) to give Indigenous tourism operators the opportunity to showcase their products and experiences.

The manual provides details of accommodation options, tours, attractions,  how to book, where to go to find the best of Australia’s art and culture, significant festivals, exciting events  and details of Indigenous Performing Arts.

Some of the experiences included in the manual include:

  • Overland safaris and walking tours to amazing waterfalls and pristine gorges
  • Eco-retreats on remote beaches with rugged coastal cliffs dramatically contrasting against clear blue seas
  • Fishing expeditions with guides who have over 10,000 years fishing experience handed down to them from their ancestors
  • Crocodile spotting and bird watching with knowledgeable wildlife enthusiasts and the opportunity to taste food prepared using unique bush cooking methods
  • Mystical journeys to view rock art and share stories around the campfire
  • Mountain bike tours, camel rides and kayaking adventures to places far off the beaten track

The aim of the manual is to allow the International tourism trade, such as Inbound tourism operators (ITOs) and wholesalers, to better understand the Indigenous tourism sector and to identify "export ready" as well as "market ready" Indigenous tourism products.

The manual also assists in raising the profile of Australian Indigenous operators by increasing the awareness of available Indigenous experiences within Australia. It is is a great tool to review the Indigenous festivals and events that take place right across Australia throughout the year.
